Wearable Tech Is The Top Fitness Trend For 2019

Besides New Year’s Resolutions, the start of each year also brings the list of ‘FITNESS TRENDS FOR 2019’.

Over the past 13 years, the American College of Sports Medicine has conducted a survey with thousands of professionals around the world to determine health and fitness trends for the upcoming year. In 2016, wearable technology first appeared on the list. In that year, it was #1 as it was again in 2017 before dropping to #3 for 2018. This year it returns to the top spot on the list.

Many fitness consumers think of wearable technology as fitness trackers, smart watches, etc. that track steps, calories, sitting time, and sleep (e.g., FitBit). And many runners, use GPS watches to track their route, distance and speed.

In the team sports world, more and more coaches and athletes are becoming aware of GPS technology to track and monitor player movement and break down the distances covered and speeds attained during the sporadic, intermittent nature of soccer, rugby, football, lacrosse and field hockey practice and competition.

At about the same time as wearable technology began appearing on the top fitness trends list, SPT was growing its client list in over 100 countries worldwide.  With the smallest, sleekest GPS device on the market and the easy-to-use yet powerful GameTraka software to analyze and dissect the performance of individual athletes and teams, SPT provides a great and affordable wearable technology solution for understanding game demands, designing practices and conditioning sessions, and managing weekly training load.
